Eastern University organised its Freshers' Orientation for the Summer Trimester 2026 at its permanent campus in Ashulia on Friday.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, according to a press release.
Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan of the Department of History and Philosophy at North South University attended the event as the chief guest, while Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Eastern University, was present as the special guest.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan stressed the importance of using Bangla as the medium of instruction in higher education, saying it is essential for quality education and effective learning. He also spoke about the country's employment challenges and encouraged students to pursue knowledge, uphold human values and contribute to society.
Addressing the programme, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani urged students to uphold moral values and develop themselves into responsible citizens. He also encouraged them to honour and care for their parents throughout their lives.
Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju advised the newly admitted students to make the most of their university life by focusing on their studies while actively participating in skill development and campus activities.
The programme also featured speeches by Treasurer Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Registrar Dr. Abul Basher Khan and the deans of different schools. The welcome address was delivered by Mohammad Rofiussan, chairperson of the Department of English and convener of the orientation committee.
Heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officials, staff, guardians and newly admitted students attended the event.
During the orientation, students were introduced to the university's academic system, student support services, clubs, co-curricular activities and campus facilities. The programme concluded with a cultural performance by Eastern University students.
