A cabinet committee on government purchase in a meeting on Sunday approved a proposal from the information ministry proposal to buy the World Cup Football 2026 television broadcasting rights at Tk 72.70 crore.

Finance and planning minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

The approval will help state- run BTV to telecast the WC matches.
