A 14-member delegation led by Ducsu Vice-President Shadik Kayem is holding a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, pressing various demands, including the swift arrest of those involved in the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective independent candidate from Dhaka-8.
The meeting began around 2pm on Monday at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.
Other protesters are staging a sit-in at the Education Building intersection.
Earlier, Ducsu leaders carried out a siege program at the home affairs adviser’s office over the same demands.
Around 1pm on Monday, students gathered in front of the Ducsu building at Dhaka University and began chanting slogans.
They later moved towards Doel Chattar and the High Court intersection, where they faced resistance from police. At one stage, they broke through police barricades and laid siege to the home affairs adviser’s office.
The three-point demands of the Ducsu leaders include the arrest of the criminals involved in the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, the recovery of all illegal weapons through a nationwide operation, and the arrest of criminals of the Awami League.
