A van driver died after getting trapped while trying to put out a fire at a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) warehouse in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj last night.
The victim was identified as Md Nayan, 22, from Hatbakail village.
The fire broke out around 9:00pm at a TCB dealer's warehouse on the ground floor of a building beside Hatbakail Bazar in Nizampur union, said Sukomal Chandra Debnath, officer-in-charge of Nachole Police Station.
After being informed, firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes. They later found Nayan's body inside the warehouse.
According to the OC, Nayan and several others rushed to the warehouse after seeing the fire. They broke open the shutter lock and went inside to put out the flames. While the others managed to come out safely, Nayan got trapped inside and could not escape.
The fire destroyed TCB goods worth around Tk 1.5 lakh, OC Sukomal said, adding that the cause of the fire is not yet known.
Nayan's body was later handed over to his family, the OC further said.
