One of the greatest composers in Bangla music, Alauddin Ali enriched the country's musical heritage as a composer, music director and lyricist. His contribution to Bangla film music is immeasurable. If asked to name the composer behind any of the most beloved Bangla film songs of the past several decades, there is every chance the answer would be Alauddin Ali.
The legendary musician passed away on August 9, 2020. Six years have now gone by. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the timeless songs he created.
Alauddin Ali was the creative force behind countless iconic songs, particularly for Bangla cinema. Among his best-known compositions are “Ekbar Jodi Keu Bhalobashto”, “Je Chhilo Drishtir Simanay”, “Bhalobasha Joto Boro Jibon Toto Boro Noy”, “Dukkho Bhalobese Premer Khela Khelte Hoy”, “Ei Duniya Ekhon To Ar Sei Duniya Nai”, “Surjodoye Tumi Surjasteo Tumi O Amar Bangladesh”, “Emono To Prem Hoy Chokher Jole Kotha Koy”, “Hoy Jodi Bodnam Hok Aro”, “Prothom Bangladesh”, “Amar Shesh Bangladesh”, “Achhen Amar Moktar Achhen Amar Barrister”, “Sukhe Thako O Amar Nondini Hoye Karor Ghoroni”, “Bondhu Tin Din Tor Bari Gelam Dekha Pailam Na”, “Jetuku Shomoy Tumi Thako Kachhe Mone Hoy E Dehe Pran Achhe”, “Shobai Bole Boyosh Bare Ami Boli Komere”, “Amay Genthe Dao Na Mago Ekta Polash Phuler Mala”, “Shoto Jonomer Shopno Tumi Amar Jibone Ele”, “Keu Kono Din Amare To Kotha Dilo Na”, “Pari Na Bhule Jete Smritira Mala Genthe”, “Jonmo Theke Jolchhi Mago”, “Amar Moner Bhetor Onek Jwala Agun Hoiya Jole”, and “Hayre Kopal Mondo Chokh Thakite Ondho”, among many others.
He received the National Film Award for Best Music Director in 1988 for “Golapi Ekhon Traine” (1979), “Sundori” (1980), “Kasai”, and “Jogajog”. In 1985, he won the National Film Award for Best Lyricist. Over the course of his career, he received the National Film Award a total of eight times.
Songs written, composed and musically directed by Alauddin Ali have captivated audiences for generations. Across films, radio and television, he created nearly 5,000 songs. He was born on 24 December 1952 in Bashbari village of Tongibari upazila, Munshiganj.
