Veteran guitarist Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal of legendary Bangladeshi rock band Warfaze has shared a deeply personal reflection on his four-decade-long journey in music, describing it as the “greatest achievement” of his life.

In a heartfelt Facebook post on Wednesday, Kamal looked back on his musical path—from learning the guitar in the early 1980s to becoming a founding member of one of the country’s most influential rock bands. He wrote that the period from 1984 to 2026 feels “like a dream,” recalling how he bought his first guitar in November 1983, began learning in 1984, performed his first show in 1986, and earned his first income from music later that year.

Tracing his rise, Kamal noted that by 1987 he was regularly performing with bands, recording in studios, playing on Bangladesh Television, and collaborating with various artists. A major turning point came in 1988 with the successful journey of Warfaze, followed by the release of the band’s self-titled album in 1991, which he described as a landmark achievement in his life.

He credited his parents for giving him the freedom to fully commit to music, saying he never had to take up a conventional job. However, balancing studies, family responsibilities, business, travel and music was never easy. Still, he believes that the life he chose—surrounded by friends, bandmates and music—shaped both his personal happiness and artistic output.

Kamal also opened up about a difficult chapter in recent years. After losing his father in 2024, he went through a period of severe depression. He shared that while he has now returned to music, physical limitations mean he can no longer perform at the same pace as before. Instead, he is approaching music more slowly and thoughtfully.

Reflecting on his lifestyle, Kamal wrote that his greatest “insurance” in life was not having to work a job, allowing him to spend decades making music, travelling at home and abroad, and creating memories with friends he has known for 40 to 50 years. He believes the best outcome of those relationships is the music Warfaze has created.

Looking ahead, Kamal said he hopes to resume international tours with the band once visa-related issues are resolved. “Let’s see how far we can go with Warfaze in the next few years,” he added.

Formed in 1984, Warfaze officially launched its recorded journey with the release of its first album in 1991.
