The brain surgery on Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and political adviser to the prime minister, has been successfully completed.

Doctors said the BNP leader is now under close observation following the operation at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Speaking to journalists on Friday night, Prof Dr Shahabuddin Talukder said, "His (Mirza Abbas's) blood supply stopped, and he had a stroke. We performed an operation, and it was done successfully. He is doing well now. Tomorrow we will do a CT scan. After the surgery, he is now on life support."

Mirza Abbas's son Yasir Abbas told journalists that various rumours had spread on social media.

"Different things have been spread on social media and elsewhere. Actually, it is not like that. Since my father's work pressure was quite high and he was also fasting, he fell under stress. I think my father is doing much better now with everyone's prayers. Please pray for my father," he said.

According to the medical board, Mirza Abbas was taken to the operating theatre at 3:10pm for surgery.

Mirza Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital after he fell ill and lost consciousness on Wednesday night.
