Unicharm Group has begun domestic production of its SOFY sanitary pad in Bangladesh as part of a full-scale business expansion. The launch took place in Dhaka on November 28, 2025.
The company introduced the "SOFY AntiBacteria" sanitary pad, developed specifically for Bangladesh and produced at a local factory. Unicharm said the local rollout reflects its commitment to delivering stable, high-quality products and supporting a hygienic way of life for women.
The company is also launching a period education programme titled "Moner Kotha with Sofy". It will reach one million girls with information on women's health, menstruation knowledge, period management, and product use. The programme will use digital content and face-to-face sessions for middle and high school students. The first phase will start in January 2026 with an online campaign on SOFY's social media channels. Sessions on Facebook Live with Bangladesh-gynaecologists will share information nationwide. School-based activities in Dhaka will follow.
The refreshed initiative includes actress Tanjim Saiyara Totini as the SOFY Brand Ambassador in Bangladesh.
Yuji Ikeda, Corporate Officer of Unicharm Corporation and Managing Director of Unicharm India Private Limited, said, "We are extremely proud to bring our best feminine care product to Bangladesh through the 'SOFY' brand, a brand that originated in Japan and is now loved by tens of millions of people worldwide. This launch is based on two core commitments: first, to deliver the highest quality of hygiene through our innovative, locally-made 'SOFY AntiBacteria,' and second, to nurture the next generation through comprehensive menstrual education. We believe in the potential of every girl. Our advanced Japanese technology will ensure that menstruation does not prevent them from spreading their wings and reaching their full potential."
Ashish Kumar Verma, Sales Senior Director of Unicharm India Private Limited, said, "We are delighted to introduce SOFY, our flagship brand, into the vibrant and crucial market of Bangladesh with full-scale domestic production. The existence of our valued distribution and wholesale partners, with whom we have built a long-standing relationship of trust, is essential to achieving our mission of delivering a high-quality choice like 'SOFY Anti Bacteria' to every woman in this country. In particular, the deep market insights and robust distribution network provided by the key wholesalers present here today are the engine that ensures our products reliably reach every consumer. Unicharm aims to deliver value not just to our customers, but also to our partners. Hand-in-hand, we will establish SOFY as a dominant brand in the Bangladesh market, creating a future where all girls can confidently spread their wings."
Md. Nabir Hossain, Managing Director of JS Group, said, "Our commitment is to ensure quality Period care for the women of Bangladesh. SOFY is not just a sanitary pad—it is a promise of comfort, safety, and self-confidence. We see the full launch of SOFY in the Bangladeshi market as a crucial milestone."
"We believe that women's empowerment is the core of the country's progress. Eliminating the silence and shame surrounding Period health, and spreading accurate knowledge, is our main goal. Our pledge is that no girl should fall behind in education or daily life due to her Period."
"Unicharm's trust and this strategic partnership are highly valuable to us. We are committed to reaching SOFY across Bangladesh through strong marketing, efficient distribution, and a premium consumer experience."
"Thank you for your trust in SOFY. Together, we will build a more aware, self-confident, and progressive Bangladesh," he added.
