Authorities seized a drone since it did not have permission to operate in the VIP area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The incident occurred last night when the drone was spotted and confiscated while recording video footage in front of the VIP gate, marking the arrival of Bangladesh’s victorious SAFF Under-20 football team, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said in a press release today.

Kawsar Mahmud, the aviation authority's assistant director of public relations, said a drone was being flown around the airport without permission from the civil aviation authority, which violates existing regulations.

According to the Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020, airport premises fall under a “red zone,” where drone operations are strictly prohibited without special authorisation from the relevant authorities.

Legal action will be taken against such unauthorised activities to ensure overall security at the airport, he added.

Kawsar Mahmud also urged all concerned to strictly comply with the rules and regulations while operating drones in sensitive areas, including airports.
