Left-arm pacer Atiqur Akash delivered a stellar performance as the Bangladesh under-17 team defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third and final one-dayer, sealing a 2-1 series victory at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Akash spearheaded the bowling attack with an impressive 4 for 21 from his 10 overs, helping bundle out Sri Lanka for a modest 179 in 45.1 overs after the visitors chose to bat first. Sanul Weeraratne fought hard for the tourists with a 91-ball 66, while Hirun Matheesha contributed 37, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to offer substantial resistance.
Bangladesh chased down the target comfortably, reaching 181 for five in 38.5 overs. Jarif Siyam struck a fluent 51 off 51 balls, while Adrito Ghosh made a composed 54 off 77 deliveries. Akash Roi added an unbeaten 33 to guide the hosts home without trouble.
Bangladesh had earlier won the opening match by 78 runs, before Sri Lanka levelled the series with a six-wicket victory in the second game.
