Twelve-time Federation Cup champions Abahani suffered another setback against Brothers Union, falling 1-0 to the Gopibagh outfit in their Federation Cup encounter at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday.
Monir Alam struck the decisive goal in the 27th minute to send Brothers to the top of Group A with four points from two matches -- one more than Abahani and PWD. PWD moved to three points but sit second due to better goal difference after their 2-0 win over Fakirerpool Young Men's Club at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.
Brothers had beaten Abahani 2-1 in their league meeting earlier in the season.
However, the Sky Blues had created more chances but their forwards failed to convert, with Souleymane Diabate, Al Amin, Sayeem and substitute Mohammad Ibrahim either missing from close range or rattling the woodwork, leaving the Dhanmondi giants without even a point.
At the Kings Arena, Akobir Turaev put PWD ahead in the 37th minute before Mohammad Sharif sealed the win in the 65th.
