Four years after creating a nationwide and international buzz with "Hawa", director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is set to return with his new full-length feature film "Roid", which has now secured its release window for Eid-ul-Azha.
The filmmaker confirmed the development to Prothom Alo on Friday afternoon, stating that the film is fully prepared for release, with final planning and promotional activities currently underway. Production sources have also indicated that a full-scale promotional campaign will begin soon.
As part of the initial rollout, a song from the film—performed by Raju of the band Shohojia—is scheduled for release next week. The production company Bongo expects that the early promotional push will further build audience anticipation ahead of Eid.
"Roid" centres on an unconventional human relationship, exploring the life struggles of a mystic man and his mentally unstable wife. The lead roles are portrayed by Nazifa Tushi and Mostafizur Noor Imran, with Gazi Rakayet appearing in an important role.
The film has already generated considerable discussion since the release of its trailer and poster in late 2025, earning praise from both audiences and industry insiders. It has also made its mark internationally, securing an official selection in the prestigious Tiger Competition at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Speaking about the delayed release, Sumon noted that although the film was completed earlier, the team chose to take additional time to ensure effective promotion and the right release window. “Our film was ready quite a while ago. We wanted to make sure it reached the audience properly before release. Promotion is a major factor. Additionally, festival commitments and the period before Eid-ul-Fitr did not seem suitable, which is why we chose Eid-ul-Azha,” he said.
