Imagine Mustafizur Rahman giving a dressing room speech and asking for improvement, not just from the batters but also in their overall mentality. That is exactly what happened in the Bangladesh dressing room after sealing their maiden series win against Australia on Thursday.

Despite the feat against the mighty Aussies with one match still to go, the Tigers did not look like a team done with challenging themselves.

The celebrations, while jubilant, quickly shifted into constructive arguments regarding performance. This is a pace attack that constantly aspires to be better than it was yesterday, and it appears the pacers are leading the charge, raising the mentality barometer for the rest of the group.

“If we are capable of playing in the World Cup and becoming champions, then we need to be even better. After they lost five wickets for 60-70 odd runs, they still scored and proved they are a big side. We are still hung up on how many pacers we play and how much we are scoring. Why would I or Taskin even need to bat? Only two of the deliveries were actually wicket-taking balls [during the Bangladesh innings], so if we think we are a big team, we have to fix these things,” Mustafizur reminded his teammates during the celebrations, as seen in a video released by the BCB.

The Tigers remain deeply focused on self-improvement, but they are operating much more as a cohesive unit now, galvanised by recent success and finding genuine joy in the process.

Their pace battery is the catalyst. Serious pace, immaculate control, and movement with the new ball, followed by maintaining the shine on one side to extract reverse-swing with the older ball. All masterfully exhibited by the speedsters throughout this series.

In fact, Bangladesh’s pace trio currently tops the global wicket-taking charts this year. In 2026, Nahid Rana, Mustafizur, and Taskin Ahmed combined for 48 wickets, with Rana leading the world standings with 20 wickets.

Head coach Phil Simmons noted, “Honestly, the bowlers have gone past the batsmen in their consistency.”

“Whether it’s Fizz, Rana, Shoriful, or Taskin, anybody who starts sets the tone for the team. With how the seamers are bowling, we are coming at people, hustling them, and making sure they know we are there,” he added.

It is a true pack mentality. The pacers hunt as a unit and have become the charm of this team, setting the course for an improved mindset as the Tigers remain in hunt for a historic series sweep.
