A two-day special programme exploring the rhythmic compositions and diverse musical patterns of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on September 9 and 10, featuring around 200 percussionists.

Titled “Nazruler Chhandataranga” (Nazrul’s Rhythmic Waves), the programme will be held at rehearsal rooms 104 and 105 of the Music and Dance Centre building under the initiative of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The sessions will run from 10 am to 2 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm on both days.

According to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy officials, the programme will examine the rhythmic language and structures developed by Nazrul, as well as his approaches to percussion and the broader artistic possibilities of rhythmic performance.

The two-day programme will also feature collective practice involving the participating percussionists, offering an opportunity to explore Nazrul’s rhythmic ideas through ensemble performance.

The organisers said the programme aims to highlight the richness of Nazrul’s musical innovations and their continuing relevance to Bangladesh’s musical traditions.
