The management committee of Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 on Wednesday announced that the book fair shifted to February 25 instead of February 20.
According to a press release issued by the committee’s member secretary, Md Selim Reza, the decision was made at an emergency meeting held at its Shaheed Munier Choudhury Conference Room on the day.
The meeting chaired by newly-appointed minister for cultural affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury while state minister Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, secretary Md Mafidur Rahman, Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Azam attended the meeting along with representatives of publishers and officials of the Bangla Academy.
The fair was rescheduled to be inaugurated on February 25 and this edition of the fair will end on March 15.
Earlier, the management committee postponed the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026, which was scheduled to be held between December 17, 2025, and January 17, 2026, due to the national election scheduled for February 12, 2026. Then they rescheduled on February 20 amid boycott by ‘Prakashak Oikya’ due to the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan, the month of fasting for the Muslims, begins today while the committee announced that the stall rent is totally free for the publishers for this year, said the release.
One of Prakashak Oikya members, Adarsha chief executive officer Mahabub Rahman said that they will participate at the fair according to their financial plans but there is no binding for participation.
