Bangladesh’s injury woes ahead of their two-Test series against Australia have taken another turn, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam picking up a finger injury during the ongoing three-day warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI in Darwin.

Taijul hurt his bowling finger while batting on the opening day and was rested on Day 2 today. The Bangladesh team management is monitoring the injury and will assess his condition again tomorrow.

“Taijul Islam sustained an injury to his bowling finger while batting yesterday. We bandaged it and rested him today. We will assess him again tomorrow,” Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan said in a video message sent to the media.

Team manager Nafees Iqbal later confirmed that pacer Musfik Hasan bowled in Taijul’s place on the second day, with permission from the umpires and the opposition.

The latest setback adds to an already lengthy injury list for Bangladesh ahead of the Test series. Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam were ruled out or left doubtful before the tour, leaving the Tigers with limited options in their bowling department.

Bangladesh’s preparations have also taken a hit on the field. After being bowled out for 263 in their first innings, they conceded 355 to Cricket Australia XI, with Teague Wyllie scoring a century, to fall 92 runs behind.

The Tigers then lost two wickets for 19 in their second innings by the close of the second day, leaving them under considerable pressure heading into the final day of the warm-up game.

With the first Test against Australia beginning in Darwin on August 13, Bangladesh will be hoping Taijul’s injury proves to be a minor setback as they deal with a string of injuries and a lack of form heading into the series.
