Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said that certain political groups are attempting to mislead the public in the name of reforms, accusing them of ignoring pressing issues.

"Some political parties, both in and outside the parliament, have started to confuse the public. The interim government had formed 11 commissions covering the constitution, judiciary, administration, health, and women's affairs. Today, we sense a conspiracy afoot," he said at a rally organised by Bogura district BNP at Altafunnessa playground.

He described such groups as “covert manipulators” who, he said, have repeatedly sought to mislead the nation at critical moments, including during the Liberation War, the 1986 elections, and the 1/11 period in 2008.

He went on to say that those trying to mislead the public in the name of “reforms” and misrepresent the July Charter say nothing about women’s freedom or development.

He added that they also remain silent about the health commission’s role in ensuring people’s access to medicine and healthcare.

"They do not talk about how to fix the administration or how to stabilise law and order. They only talk about the constitution," he said.

“We want to introduce Family Cards and Farmer Cards for our people. We want to provide honorariums for imams and muazzins. We want to excavate canals, plant trees, and create jobs for young people at home and abroad. These critics have done nothing on any of these issues,” the PM said.

He questioned the credibility of those he said were misleading the public about the July Charter, arguing that they never believed in the country’s independence or even its existence.

The prime minister assured the crowd that every promise made by the BNP to the people would be fulfilled.

Addressing local demands, he said construction of the Sirajganj-Bogura railway line was a top priority and would begin soon.

Describing Bogura and surrounding areas as major agricultural hubs, he said he wanted to expand exports of agricultural products abroad.

He also announced that work would soon begin at Bogura University to introduce specialised departments in agriculture, engineering and medicine.
