A two-day literary festival titled ‘Rajshahi Literary Festival 2026’ began in Rajshahi on Friday, bringing together poets, writers, academics and cultural activists in a collective expression against war and aggression.

The Rajshahi Writers’ Collective has organised the festival for the first time at the city’s Lalon Shah Muktamancha, featuring a wide range of programmes including panel discussions, poetry recitations, film screenings and art exhibitions.

The opening day began with an inaugural session, followed by the national anthem and poetry recitations.

A discussion titled ‘Contemporary Literature: Language of Resistance and Protest’ was held, where noted editors and writers discussed the role of literature in addressing social and political challenges.

Another session, ‘Little Magazine Reading and Experience Sharing’, brought together editors of various small literary magazines, highlighting grassroots literary practices and independent publishing initiatives.

The programme also included a book discussion segment reviewing selected literary works, alongside a poetry reading session featuring poets from Rajshahi University and other institutions. In the afternoon, a discussion titled ‘War and Aggression: Literature of Resistance and Peace’ explored how literature can confront violence and promote social awareness.

A poster and cartoon exhibition focusing on anti-war themes, along with a book fair, was also opened to visitors on the festival premises.

Organisers said that the festival aimed to create a platform for critical dialogue and cultural resistance in the face of global and local challenges, while encouraging emerging writers and artists to engage with contemporary issues.

The second day’s schedule includes solidarity speeches, anti-war poetry recitations, discussions, film screenings and musical performances reflecting themes of resistance and human values.
