The metro rail station at Dhaka University campus was closed for two hours on Thursday afternoon due to the inauguration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 at the Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and formally opened the fair between 1:30pm and 3:30pm on the day.
According to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, no metro train stopped at the DU station during the time.
Many people were seen gathered at Shahbagh station to get on the metro trains at the time.
After 3:30pm the trains started to stop at the DU station, said the company’s deputy project director (public relations) Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi.
