Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a Bangladeshi expatriate, whose body was dismembered in Dhaka’s Manda Mugda area a week ago.
A joint team of Mugda police and Counter Terrorism officials of DMP arrested Taslima Akter, 31, from her sister’s house in Narsingdi this morning, Muhammad Harun Or Rashid, deputy commissioner of Motijheel Division Police, told The Daily Star.
Deceased Mokarram Miah, 37, who worked in Saudi Arabia, was killed on May 14. His body was later dismembered and dumped in several locations across the capital.
Earlier, Rab arrested two persons -- Helena Akter, 40, and her 13-year-old daughter -- on May 18.
Police and Rab said the killing stemmed from Mokarram’s relationship with Taslima alias Hasna, 31, wife of another expatriate. He had sent her more than Tk 5,00,000 and demanded marriage or repayment after returning to Bangladesh on May 13 without informing his family.
Mokarram demanded repayment of the money he had sent to Taslima and threatened to leak her private photos and videos after she refused to marry him.
Taslima and Helena later allegedly planned to kill him. On May 14 morning, they mixed sleeping pills into his drink. When he became unconscious, they allegedly killed him.
The body was then taken to a bathroom, cleaned, and later cut into eight pieces.
The parts were kept in plastic bags before being dumped in multiple locations, including near the building’s garbage area. The victim’s head was later recovered about one kilometre away, based on information provided by Helena.
