The Bangladesh Army this morning took Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in connection with a crimes against humanity case, in line with a tribunal order.

He was taken to the tribunal around 9:30am and is likely to be shown arrested in the case later today. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 11:00am.

A few days ago, ICT Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam said investigators had uncovered extensive communication between Muzaffar and Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, a key figure in the 2007 army-backed caretaker government and an accused in the same crimes against humanity case.

The chief prosecutor alleged that Muzaffar had maintained regular contact with Masud over the past 16 years, frequently crossed into a neighbouring country while remaining a fugitive, and was closely associated with Masud, who allegedly played roles in conspiracies surrounding several general elections.

Muzaffar was handed over to the army after being arrested by Detective Branch (DB) police on July 16 over his alleged involvement in the 1981 assassination of former president Ziaur Rahman.
