After seizing the honors on the opening day, Bangladesh continued to dictate terms. The Tigers dominated Australia throughout Day 2 of the first Test in Darwin on Friday, taking a commanding 153-run lead.

Tanzid Tamim starred with a spectacular century, perfectly supported by a crucial half-century from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. 

Despite a late Aussie fightback that sparked a mini-collapse, the visitors finished the day in a powerhouse position at 351-6. Here are the highlights:

**Tanzid’s maiden Test century against Australia made him the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test ton in Australia. It was also Bangladesh’s first away century by an opener since Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s 137 against South Africa in Durban in 2022.

**Tanzid became only the second Bangladesh batter to score a Test century against Australia, after Shahriar Nafees’ 138 in Fatullah in 2006.

**Bangladesh’s 351-6 on Day 2 is already their highest Test total in Australia, surpassing the 295 they scored in Cairns in the first innings of the second Test in 2003. So far, it is their second-highest total against Australia overall, behind their 427 in Fatullah in 2006.

**Bangladesh have taken a first-innings lead of more than 150 against Australia only twice. The other came in 2006, when they led by 158 in Fatullah before losing the match by three wickets.

**Tanzid and Mominul Haque’s 102-run second-wicket stand was only Bangladesh’s second century partnership against Australia in Australia. Hannan Sarkar and Habibul Bashar previously shared a 108-run stand in Cairns in 2003.

**Steve Smith’s three catches on Friday took him to 218 in Tests, equalling Joe Root for the most catches by a fielder. Smith reached the mark in 124 Tests, compared with Root’s 166; India’s Rahul Dravid is third with 210 in 164.

**Mitchell Starc’s lone wicket on Day 2 took him to 435 Test wickets, surpassing Kapil Dev (434) and moving him to 11th on the all-time list. He needs five more to break into the top 10, overtaking South Africa’s Dale Steyn (439).
