Singer-songwriter Bappa Mazumder, whose career has spanned more than three decades, will be honoured at a special musical evening titled “Celebrating Bappa Mazumder”, to be held tomorrow (July 24) at Jatrabiroti in Banani.
At the event, a new generation of musicians will perform some of Bappa’s most popular songs in his presence. The line-up includes Joy Shahriar, Khayam Sanu Sandhi, Yousuf Ahmed Khan, Farhin Khan Joyita, Khan Moidul Islam Shuvo, Elita Karim, Karishma Sanu Sovvota and Sayemul Islam Riyad.
In a joint statement, the participating artistes described Bappa Mazumder as one of the defining figures of Bangladeshi music.
“Bappa Mazumder is an extraordinary name in Bangladesh’s music scene. For decades, he has elevated Bangla music through his distinctive style. Songs such as ‘Pori’, ‘Dhulo Pora Chithi’, ‘Rater Train’, ‘Kokhono Ichchhe Hoy’ and ‘Din Bari Jay’ are only a few among the countless songs that have touched listeners’ hearts. He has remained one of our most beloved artistes for generations. We all admire him deeply and are proud to perform his songs in his presence.”
Reacting to the initiative, Bappa Mazumder said, “It is wonderful that the younger generation will perform my songs. Joy, Sandhi, Elita and the others are all exceptional artistes. This is a remarkable initiative, and I am delighted to be part of it. It is the first time I have experienced something like this, and I am eagerly looking forward to the evening.”
The concert will begin at 7:00pm tomorrow. Tickets are priced at Tk 1,000, and online registration is already underway.
