The Bangladesh Football League title race reaches a thrilling climax as two former champions, Abahani and Bashundhara Kings, meet in the penultimate round at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla today.

The high-stakes clash, crucial in deciding the league winner, will be broadcast on the Bangladesh Football Federation’s digital platform – BFF TV – at 3:45pm.

Kings top the 10-team table with 35 points from 16 matches, just one ahead of Abahani. A win for Kings would secure the title with a game to spare and see them match Abahani’s record of six league triumphs. For Abahani, who last lifted the league in 2017-18 before Kings’ rise, victory would put the title firmly in their hands on the final matchday.

“Abahani have strongly bounced back into the title race despite lagging in the first leg of the league. It is a do-or-die match for both sides,” said Kings coach BA Jubair Nipu.

Kings hold the edge in head-to-head encounters, having defeated Abahani 15 times, drawn twice, and lost four times across 21 meetings in the BFL, Federation Cup, and Independence Cup. Their last league clash ended in a 2-2 draw.

“The fact is, we have beaten them several times in the past, and our players, including 12 national players, are committed to winning both the league and Federation Cup in the next five days,” Nipu added. Kings, however, will be without suspended winger Rakib Hossain and Nigerian forwards Emmanuel Sunday and Emmanuel Tony, who have missed games over unpaid wages. League top-scorer Dorielton Gomes, with 16 goals, remains a key inspiration, having excelled in every crucial match.

While Kings have dropped points in two of their seven second-leg matches amid off-field disruptions, Abahani have been flying high, recording seven consecutive wins.

“We are progressing match by match… and the team is 100 percent ready to achieve our target,” said Abahani manager Satayjit Das Rupu.
