One more Bangladeshi national was killed and seven others injured in missile and drone attacks across the Middle East until Monday, confirmed foreign affairs ministry.
The Bangladeshi national was killed in Bahrain during Iran’s retaliatory airstrikes.
Earlier, Saleh Ahmed from Barlekha in Moulvibazar was killed in the United Arab Emirates.
The strikes followed large-scale attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel on Saturday, which continued into Monday.
According to the ministry, three Bangladeshis were injured in Bahrain and four others were wounded in Kuwait.
The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed on Sunday that three people were killed and 58 others injured in the strikes in the United Arab Emirates. The other two victims were Nepali and Pakistani expatriates.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals — Aminul Islam from Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria, Rabiul Islam from Sathia in Pabna, Masudur Rahman from Begumganj in Noakhali and Dulal Miah from Chandina in Cumilla — sustained injuries in a drone attack near a civilian airport.
They received necessary medical treatment and are now reported to be in stable condition.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait is maintaining regular contact with the injured nationals, and the ambassador personally visited them at the hospital, the ministry said.
Separately, a vessel of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Banglar Joyjatra, is currently stranded at Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates amid heightened tensions.
The Bangladesh Embassy in the UAE is in close communication with the ship’s captain. All crew members are reported safe.
In a press release, the government expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East and said it was closely monitoring developments.
The safety and security of more than six million Bangladeshis living in the region remain the government’s top priority, the release added.
