The Cox's Bazar-bound Parjatak Express from Dhaka remains stranded since this afternoon after floodwater submerged a section of the railway track near Jan Ali Hat Station in Chattogram this afternoon.

The train, carrying around 800 passengers, left Dhaka at around 6:30am and reached Sholoshahar Railway Station in Chattogram at about 12:30pm. After leaving the Sholoshahar station, it was forced to stop near the Sunnia Madrasa area, a short distance from Jan Ali Hat Station, after floodwater inundated the railway track.

As of 3:00pm, the train remained stranded at the spot.

Nizam Uddin, station master of Jan Ali Hat Station, said train movement had been suspended because the track was under water.

"We are not allowing the train to proceed considering passenger safety. The train will resume its journey once the water recedes and the track is declared safe," he told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, the Probal Express, travelling from Cox's Bazar to Chattogram, was also halted at Dohazari Railway Station after a tree fell onto the track ahead.

The Railway Chattogram Divisional Control Room confirmed the disruption around 2:30pm.

Chattogram has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past two days under the influence of active monsoon conditions. Waterlogging has been reported across several parts of the port city since this morning, inundating roads and low-lying areas and disrupting transport.
