Police detained at least 70 people, including Chinese, Pakistani and Vietnamese nationals, during a raid on a building in Chattogram's Khulshi on Thursday night over alleged involvement in online scams and gambling.
The hours-long raid targeted the building reportedly rented by the group to operate the scam.
Police seized laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices during the raid.
Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdur Rahim told The Daily Star that the foreign nationals had rented the entire building.
He added that many of those detained claimed they had arrived in Bangladesh about six weeks ago on visas on arrival.
Police are verifying whether the detainees have valid passports and visas and whether any of them were staying in Bangladesh for employment. Their identities, nationalities and possible involvement in the alleged activities are also being checked.
Police said further details would be disclosed at a press conference.
