The National Sports Council in a directive dissolved all the previously formed ad-hoc committees of the country’s divisional, district and upazila sports associations.
The NSC directive circulated on Wednesday also called for the creation of new seven-member ad hoc committees at the divisional, district, and upazila levels of grassroots sports governing bodies.
According to the decision, Divisional Commissioners will serve as presidents of Divisional Sports Associations, while Deputy Commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi officers will hold the top positions in District and Upazila Sports Associations.
Each Divisional SA ad-hoc committee will have a member secretary who will be a local sports organiser or personality, with the other five members being the deputy inspector general of police, police commissioner, director of local government, joint registrar of cooperatives and a local sports personality.
Each District SA ad-hoc committee was made up of five members: a local sports organiser or sports personality as secretary and police super, an additional district commissioner (General), a deputy director (Social Services Office), a sports officer (District) and a sports personality.
Each of the Upazila SA ad hoc committees was comprised of a local sports organiser or sports personality as member secretary, while the officer in charge, the upazila women’s affairs officer, the youth development officer, the upazila social services office and a sports personality will serve as the five members.
This was the second time the grassroots-level sports governing bodies experienced the abolition order of the committees since August 21, 2024, when the ministry of youth and sport dissolved all executive committees and later formed ad hoc committees to run the sporting activity at these levels.
