The CID today handed over the DNA test report to the investigating officer in the case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Dhaka's Pallabi.
The Criminal Investigation Department forensic laboratory unit submitted the report around noon, clearing the way for police to file a chargesheet in the case.
Confirming the development, Pallabi Police Station OC Hasan Basir told The Daily Star that the investigating officer is preparing to submit the chargesheet by tomorrow.
A DNA test is a scientific method used to identify individuals through genetic material. In rape and murder cases, biological samples collected from the victim, crime scene and suspects are analysed to determine genetic matches.
The results are considered key forensic evidence in establishing involvement in such crimes.
Police officials said the chemical test report has also been submitted today.
Eight-year-old Ramisa was found beheaded at her neighbour’s home in Pallabi on May 16.
The neighbour, Sohel Rana, 31, has been accused of raping and killing the child. On Wednesday, he gave a confessional statement before a magistrate and was later sent to jail.
Sohel’s wife, Swapna Akter, 26, was also sent to jail after police appealed to another court to keep her in custody as an alleged accomplice.
Police suspect Swapna helped Sohel flee after the incident.
The case was filed by Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, who named Sohel, Swapna, and an unidentified person as accused.
