Uber is cutting about 3,300 jobs, representing roughly 10% of its global workforce, as the ride-hailing company restructures its operations and reduces layers of management.

Chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi announced the changes to employees as part of an overhaul intended to simplify the organisation while directing investment towards ride-hailing, delivery, and robotaxi operations.

Uber plans to reduce the number of managers by about 20%, with some managers moving into individual contributor roles rather than leaving the company. It is also reducing very small teams and combining parts of its engineering, science and delivery organisations.

The restructuring extends to working arrangements. Uber is sharply reducing the number of fully remote positions, with such roles expected to account for less than 1% of its workforce.

The changes come as Uber increases its focus on autonomous transport while attempting to reduce organisational complexity created by years of expansion into new products and markets.
