Politicians at a commemoration meeting in Dhaka on Tuesday said that left-wing politician and author Haider Akbar Khan Rano never strayed from his political ideals in his long political career.
Rano wanted to establish a discrimination-free country where people would enjoy their rights, they said.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh organised a commemoration meeting at its central office in Purana Paltan to mark the second anniversary of the death of the party’s former advisor, Haider Akbar Khan Rono, who died in Dhaka on May 11, 2024 at the age of 82 after suffering from lung disease.
Former president of CPB and also presidium member, Mujahidul Islam Selim, said that Rano was a dedicated political figure who upheld his ideals throughout his long career in his pursuit of a discrimination-free democratic country.
Adviser to the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Khalequzzaman said that Rano was also a good author who wrote books on the left political ideals and wanted to establish rights of the common people in society.
Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan, president of CPB president who chaired the meeting, said that his party would continue movements to establish the political ideals of Rano.
Abdullah Al Kafee Ratan, general secretary, central committee members Mihir Ghosh, Joly Talukder and Pragati Lekkhak Sangha, vice president Zakir Hossain also spoke at the commemoration meeting.
Before the meeting, politicians placed a floral wreath at the portrait of Haider Akbar Khan Rano at the party’s central office.
