A nine-year-old female student was allegedly severely beaten by a teacher at a madrasa in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj, resulting in a fractured spinal bone, according to a police complaint filed by the victim’s family.

The victim, a class two student at Bage Noorani Hafezia Madrasa in Birtara Union, was allegedly assaulted with a wooden stick by teacher Md Safayet on July 24 for failing to recite her lessons.

The complaint states that the child was threatened against informing her family, but she revealed the incident days later when her pain became unbearable.

The victim’s father alleged that Madrasa Principal Md Tofazzal urged the family to suppress the issue when contacted.

As the child's physical condition deteriorated, the family filed a written complaint against both teachers at Sreenagar Police Station today.

The assault has sparked widespread outrage, with local residents organising a protest at the madrasa premises on Friday to demand punishment for those involved.

Jewel Miah, officer-in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station, confirmed receiving the complaint and said the matter was currently under investigation.

He noted that a formal case has not yet been registered due to an incomplete filing and no arrests have been made as of filing this report at 8:45pm today.
