The High Court on Thursday granted bail to journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in December last year.

The bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order after delivering judgement on a rule issued earlier by the court as to why the journalist would not be granted bail.

However, the journalist will not be released from jail as he has been shown arrested in another case over alleged corruption, according to Anis’s lawyer Aslam Mia.

The lawyer told New Age that the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court is scheduled for March 8 to hear his client’s bail prayer in the Anti-Corruption Commission case in which he was shown arrested on January 25.

Anis was taken into the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch custody on December 14, 2025 and was later arrested in the case filed with Uttara West police station.

The case was filed by Arian Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, accusing Anis Alamgir, actress Meher Afroz Shaon, fashion model Maria Kispatta and presenter Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.

On January 15, the ACC filed another case against Anis.

ACC assistant director and investigation officer Akhteruzzaman prayed before the court to show him arrested in the case that accused him of amassing illegal wealth.
