Thirty-five Bangladeshi workers, who were dismissed from their jobs in Russia, returned home today.

A flight of Qatar Airways carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 5:45pm, said a press release issued by BRAC.

Shariful Hasan, associate director of BRAC, said with the joint assistance of the Expatriate Welfare Desk and Civil Aviation Security, the workers were provided with transportation support and other emergency assistance at the airport.

The returnees include Moshior Rahman from Gaibandha, Asmat Ali from Manikganj, Haiyul Mia from Mymensingh, Azadul Haque from Sirajganj, Prosenjit Rajbangshi from Dhaka, Md Abdullah from Chapainawabganj, and others, added the release.

They alleged that they were deceived in the name of overseas employment. Each of them spent an average of Tk seven lakh.

The returning workers also alleged that without any clear reason, the concerned recruiting company terminated their jobs and decided to send them back to Bangladesh.

So far, the process of dismissing and repatriating a total of 120 Bangladeshi workers has begun. As part of this, 35 workers returned today in the first phase, they added.

The workers alleged that in July 2025, a recruiting agency sent them to Russia with clearance documents. According to the contract, they were supposed to work as factory labourers, but in reality, they were made to do building construction work.

The returning workers have called for the intervention of the relevant government authorities to investigate the incident and take legal action against those responsible, added the release.
