Spotify has launched Playlist Notes, a new feature that allows users and the streaming service’s editors to add explanations and context to items included in playlists.

Users can attach notes to songs, podcast episodes and audiobooks in playlists they own or collaborate on. Anyone able to view the playlist will also be able to see the notes.

Spotify editors will use the feature to explain why particular songs were selected or why they are relevant to a playlist. The company is initially introducing editorial notes on playlists including Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.

Spotify is also introducing Editor Profiles, which display editors’ top tracks and albums as well as playlists they contribute to.

User-created Playlist Notes are rolling out on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets. Editorial notes and profiles are being introduced to Free and Premium users aged 16 and above in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
