Ten new films are set to be released in cinemas on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, which will be celebrated in the country on May 28.
Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association senior vice president Mia Alauddin said that due to a huge number of films against the number of theatres, the final distribution of the Eid films would be confirmed today.
‘Some films are set for a last-minute release just hours before the festival. This creates complications in theatre distribution, as the actual number of cinema halls—especially single screens—available for those films remains unknown,’ he said. He added that the box office failure of the Shakib Khan-starred film Prince during Eid-ul-Fitr interrupted the single-screen cinema business, creating a fragile situation that needs to be handled with care.
According to the exhibitors’ association, Azman Rusho directed Shakib Khan-starred film Rockstar, Saikat Nasir-directed Masud Rana, Masud Hasan Ujjal-directed government grant winning film Bonolota Sen, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon-directed Roid, Akash Haque-directed film The University of Chankharpul, Badiul Alam Khokon-directed film Officer, Saif Chandan-directed film Malik, Aalok Hasan-directed film Nakphuler Kabyo, Badiul Alam Khokon-directed film Tochhonchh and Zahid Jewel-directed film Pinik received no objection for screening at cinemas.
Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad, owner of the single-screen Madhumita cinema hall, said that they will screen the Shakib Khan-starred film ‘Rockstar.’
‘Shakib Khan attracts a huge audience, and I hope Rockstar will entertain them,’ he said, adding that the cinema hall is preparing for the Eid audience.
Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Media and Marketing Manager at Star Cineplex, said that they had not yet not confirmed which film will be screened at their outlets.
