Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, has said the platform remains the primary destination for its most successful creators, despite increasing competition from streaming services.
Speaking in an interview with The New York Times’ “The Interview” series, Neal Mohan downplayed concerns that rivals such as Netflix are drawing creators away. His comments come as several high-profile podcasts and content creators explore distribution deals beyond YouTube.
Mohan mentioned that while creators may experiment with other platforms, the company has not seen evidence of major figures abandoning YouTube entirely. According to Mohan, conversations with leading creators indicate that YouTube continues to serve as their primary base, even when they expand to other services. He said creators recognise the platform’s long-term value for audience reach and engagement.
Mohan also suggested that, in negotiations with other platforms, creators ultimately prioritise maintaining a presence on YouTube, rather than shifting their content exclusively elsewhere.
