Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said the next national parliamentary election will be held under a caretaker government.
He made the remarks to journalists at the Secretariat after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed appeals challenging the High Court verdict on the 15th amendment to the constitution.
"It (holding the election under a caretaker government) is our political commitment. The caretaker government system is the result of BNP's movement," he said.
The 15th amendment, passed during the Awami League government's tenure, abolished the caretaker government system along with introducing several other changes to the constitution.
The amendment led to political controversy and was considered one of the most controversial constitutional amendments in the country's history.
