Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman visited flood-affected areas in Chattogram today. He met affected residents, distributed relief and assured them of continued support.
According to a press release issued by the party, Shafiqur flew to Chattogram this morning and headed directly to different flood-hit areas in Banshkhali upazila. During the visit, he spoke with affected families and inquired about the overall situation.
He later distributed dry food and provided financial assistance to affected families.
Shafiqur said standing by people affected by natural disasters was a humanitarian and moral responsibility. He urged affluent individuals, social and voluntary organisations, and people from all walks of life to extend support to flood victims according to their capacity.
The press release said continuous rainfall and flash floods triggered by upstream hill runoff have caused flooding and landslides in different parts of Chattogram district, leaving many families stranded and causing extensive damage.
According to the party, Shafiqur is also scheduled to visit flood-affected areas in Satkania and Chattogram city, where he will distribute dry food and other relief items among affected people.
During his visit central and local party leaders accompanied the Jamaat chief.
