A policeman was killed as an auto-rickshaw hit his motorcycle in Gazipur's Kaliakair upazila today.

The deceased is Roni Sikder, 26, of Shajahanganj Chonati area of ​​​​Tangail Sadar upazila. He was working as a constable with the Gazipur Metropolitan Police.

The accident took place this afternoon in Mouchak area on Dhaka-Tangail highway in ​​​​the upazila, said Kaiser Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station.

Police and locals said Constable Rony used to work as a bodyguard for Assistant Deputy Commissioner Deen A Alam.

Rony left for home today as his wife is pregnant and scheduled to go on surgery tomorrow. On the way, when he reached Mouchak area, an auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction hit his motorcycle. As a result, Rony fell on the road, suffered a head injury and died on the spot, said the OC.

His body was recovered by the Naojor police and handed over to his family.

The auto-rickshaw has been seized. Legal steps are underway over the incident.
