National Citizen Party (NCP) today alleged that security risks ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election are alarmingly high, pointing to widespread violations of electoral codes across the country and insufficient administrative intervention.
Following a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon, NCP leaders told reporters that their Dhaka‑18 candidate Ariful Islam Adeeb’s campaign had come under attack by BNP activists.
NCP’s chief organiser for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah, said, “The way BNP members attacked our campaign sends a negative message throughout the electoral process. The message is one of repression. It seems today the practice match has begun.”
NCP’s Election and Administration Coordination Subcommittee Secretary Ayman Raha alleged widespread violations of electoral codes nationwide.
“Already, this election carries significant security risks in Bangladesh. We are witnessing attacks even in the presence of candidates, which makes us deeply concerned,” he said.
He added that while NCP is trying to comply with the electoral code of conduct, opponents are not following the rules and the administration has taken no significant action against them.
He further complained that the BNP candidate in Dhaka‑8 is using government vehicles for campaigning and meetings.
“When such things happen openly and no action is taken, the public becomes fearful. As a competing party, we too become alarmed, realising that we are not getting a true level playing field,” he said.
