A “Janatar Sangjog” telephone booth was inaugurated on Thursday in Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency to facilitate direct communication between voters and their parliamentary candidate ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections.

The booth was formally inaugurated at Dainna Union in Sadar upazila by Sultan Salauddin Tuku, BNP’s publicity secretary and the party’s candidate for Tangail-5. The initiative aims to reduce the communication gap between elected representatives and the general public by allowing voters to directly convey their problems, complaints, and demands.

According to party sources, a total of 30 “Janatar Sangjog” phone booths will be installed in phases across the constituency. Of these, 12 booths will be set up in 12 unions, while the remaining 18 will be established in various wards of the Tangail municipality. The booths will be located at union parishad and ward levels to ensure easy and inclusive access for local residents.

Each booth will be equipped with a telephone that allows citizens to connect directly with Tuku by pressing a button. Through this system, people will be able to communicate with him without intermediaries, both during the election period and, if he is elected, afterward as well.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Tuku said many people often complain that elected representatives are not easily accessible. “This initiative has been taken to eliminate that complaint. Anyone can speak to me directly on any issue by using these booths,” he said.

He further stated that after the election, people would not need to go through third parties to reach him. “If you elect me, you will find me present in your union, God willing. You work for me for a few days, and I promise to remain engaged in serving you for the next five years,” he added.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, saying it could play a significant role in strengthening accountability and communication between public representatives and citizens.

Recently, Tuku also announced a 23-point development plan for Tangail, pledging to make the district a safe, drug-free, and extortion-free model city while creating employment opportunities for educated youth.
