At least 36 more Bangladeshis were deported through a United States chartered flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Airport executive director Bangladesh Air Force Group Captain SM Ragib Samad told New Age that a  US chartered flight with 36 deported Bangladeshis arrived at the airport at about 12:10pm on the day.

‘Their hands and legs were not tied down. They came out of the flight like regular passengers,’ he added.

According to Special Branch officials at HSIA, they were informed that all of the deported Bangladeshis had their visas expired long ago and they were overstaying in the US illegally.

Earlier in 2025, the US authorities deported 257 Bangladesh nationals, many of whom also reported being restrained during the plane journey.

In the latest incident on December 8, 2025, the US deported 31 more Bangladesh nationals, sending them back to Dhaka in handcuffs and with legs shackled throughout the nearly 60-hour journey.

With Donald Trump’s return to the White House for a second term, the US has intensified its crackdown on irregular migration and deported the citizens of several countries, including Bangladesh, in multiple phases.
