Police last night arrested two men over the killing of Kushtia pir Abdur Rahman, also known as Shamim al‑Jahangir, and vandalism at his darbar in Daulatpur nearly two weeks after the attack.

The arrestees are Biplob, 26, and Alif Islam, 23, -- both from Pashchim Dakkhin Philipnagar, confirmed Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman.

They were detained during a special operation late Sunday night in the Philipnagar area of the upazila, he said.

Another person, Fazlul Ali, was taken to the police station but later released after questioning.

The OC said the arrests were made based on analysis of CCTV footage from the incident site and ongoing investigation.

On April 11, Shamim was beaten and hacked to death by a mob at his darbar in Philipnagar over allegations of hurting religious sentiments. The darbar was vandalised and set on fire during the attack.

Following the incident, the victim’s brother Fazlur Rahman filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station on April 13, naming four individuals and accusing around 180 to 200 unidentified others.
