The criminal investigation department of police submitted the chargesheet against 16 leaders and activists of Awami League and its student organisation, including former lawmaker Habib-e-Millat for the murder of Enamul Haque Bijoy, a leader of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League of Sirajganj.

General recording officer of Sirajganj Sadar court Juwel Rana said that the criminal investigation department had submitted the chargesheet to the court on Sunday.

The chargesheeted accused of the case are former lawmaker from Sirajganj-2 constituency Habib-e-Millat, president of Sirajganj Poura AL Helal Uddin, president of district unit of BCL Ahsan Habib Khoka, its organising secretary Shihab Ahmed Jihad, Juba League leader Emdadul Haque Emdad, BCL leaders Ashiqur Rahman Bijoy, Al Amin, Zahidul Islam, Sabbir Hossain, Sohag, Parvez Reza, Tariquzzaman Leon, Mamun, Rashidul Hassan Rashed, Jubair Hossain and Al Amin Babu.

Four of the chargesheeted accused are now on bail and the remaining 12 persons have been absconding since long, the GRO said, adding that the chargesheet would be produced before the court for hearing on December 14.

Enamul Haque Bijoy was the president of BCL Haji Korop Ali Government College unit at Kamarkhand upazila and son of Abdul Kader of village Chala under the same upazila.

According to the police, Bijoy was attacked by a group of BCL leaders on June 16 in 2020 as he was on his way to Shaheed Masur Ali auditorium in Sirajganj to join the memorial meeting of former health minister Mohammad Nasim.

The attackers—following the instructions from the former lawmaker Millat and Poura AL president Helal Uddin—chopped him mercilessly in Station Bazar area in the town.

He was immediately taken to Sirajganj General Hospital, from where he was shifted to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated sharply. Bijoy finally died from his injuries on July 5 that year.

The detective branch of Sirajganj police on April 13 in 2021 submitted a chargesheet to the court accusing 12 people for the killing but the family members of the deceased submitted a na-raji, non acceptance, petition to the court. The court on November 3 in 2022 after hearing on the petition ordered the CID police to investigate into the case.
