The University of Dhaka has chalked out various programmes, celebrating the 127th anniversary of birth of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, on the campus of the university on Monday.

The teachers, students and employees of the university will gather at the base of the Aparajeya Bangla at 6:15am on Monday. From there, a rally led by vice-chancellor of the university Professor ABM Obaidul Islam will march towards the poet’s mausoleum at 6:30am, where floral wreaths will be placed and prayers will be offered, said a press release.

Later, a commemorative meeting will be held on the premises of the poet’s mausoleum under the chairmanship of Professor Obaidul Islam.

Conduct by Bangla department chairperson Professor Sirajul Islam, DU pro-VC, academic, Professor Abdus Salam; pro-VC, administration, Professor Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane; and treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will be present at the meeting.

Director general of Bangla Academy Mohammad Azam will deliver the commemorative lecture at the programme. In addition, teachers and students of the music department will perform Nazrul songs at the event.
