Noakhali-2 MP Zainul Abdin Farroque has demanded replacement of existing chairs in the parliament chamber.

Speaking on a point of order during a session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, he said there are more than 300 chairs in the House.

“Given their condition, many of us -- who have suffered police torture over the past 16 years -- struggle. Some have back pain, some have hand pain, some have waist injuries. We cannot sit properly.”

“Even younger MPs face problems,” the BNP MP added.

Farroque further said he first became an MP in 1991. “At that time, questions were raised about these chairs, and the records will show that. They were made so heavy that they could not be lifted and thrown”. “Just a while ago, when the honourable home minister looked, he saw pins sticking out -- MPs are cutting their hands on them. This needs urgent attention,” he said.
