The alliance led by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday said that it would hold a mass procession and give a memorandum to the interim government chief adviser on Thursday to press its five-point demand.

Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Mamunul Haque at a press conference at the party’s central office at Purana Paltan announced the programme on Monday.

The five demands include implementing the July National Charter, holding the next Jatiya Sangsad elections in a proportional representation system.

The demands also said that a referendum must be held in November and a level-playing field for all political parties must be ensured before the polls.

Mamunul said that leaders and activists of the alliance components would gather at the Purana Paltan crossing on Thursday at 11:00 am.

They would then, he said, start the mass procession to the CA office to hand over a memorandum to him in support of their demands.

‘We will hold a rally in Dhaka on November 11 if our demands are not fulfilled by the given time,’ Mamunul further said.

Jamaat nayeb-e-amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, ‘We have already called on the BNP and other political parties to sit together to find a way to implement the July Charter and resolve the political crisis.’

We, the most of the parties of the alliance, want a PR system of vote for the JS upper and lower houses, said Abdullah Taher.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh amir Syed Rezaul Karim said that they wanted holding a referendum in November for the implementation of the July Charter.

Khelafat Majlis secretary general Ahmed Abdul Quader, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis secretary general Jalal Uddin, Nezam-e-Islami Party secretary general Musa Bin Ezhar, Ganatantrik Party vice-president Rashed Pradhan and Development Party secretary general Nizamul Haque were present at the press conference.
