Bangladesh has resolved 48 non-tariff barriers (NTBs) raised by the European Union (EU), while 13 others remain under review, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said.

The minister revealed the information at a press briefing, following a bilateral meeting with an EU delegation in Dhaka.

Bangladesh has formally sought EU support for its proposal to defer its graduation from the least developed country (LDC) category by three years, he said.

The issue is expected to come up at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where a decision on the proposed deferment is expected.

The minister also said preliminary discussions on launching formal negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and the EU are expected to begin soon.
