Amazon has introduced a new fuel surcharge for sellers using its logistics network, as rising oil prices linked to the war in Iran continue to disrupt global energy markets.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the company said it would apply a 3.5 percent “fuel and logistics” surcharge to merchants relying on its shipping services. The move is expected to affect a large number of third-party sellers in the US and Canada who depend on Amazon’s infrastructure to store, package and ship goods.

The surcharge, set to take effect on April 17, will apply to merchants using Fulfilment by Amazon, a service that allows sellers to store products in Amazon warehouses for distribution to customers. Although Amazon does not disclose the number of sellers enrolled in the programme, it accounts for the majority of third-party transactions on the platform.

Amazon previously implemented a similar surcharge in 2022, when global oil prices exceeded $100 per barrel following the Russia-Ukraine war.
